Course Description

Torn AsunderInfidelity is one of the most common and most devastating of all marital issues. Most couples are exhausted, angry, and emotionally ready to give up; therefore, treatment must be focused, efficient, and effective to be helpful. This workshop presents a model for infidelity recovery that includes the following: (a) classifying the infidelity in one of the four classes based on research, (b) structured interventions designed to help stabilize the marriage in the first 90 days following disclosure, (c) exploration of the history of the affective component of the marriage, (d) exercises that teach communication and conflict management skills, and (e) ways the therapist can initiate forgiveness, respect, and trust-building exercises that need to occur whether or not the marriage stays intact, and (f) how to identify an appropriate and individualized aftercare support system prior to termination.
