My approach to treatment emphasizes that one of our most basic human needs is to be in relationship with others. ORT is an insight-oriented therapy which holds that bringing the unconscious into conscious awareness promotes insight and resolves conflict.
The focus of assessment and treatment is on individuals’ interactions with others, as well as how they think and feel about themselves. I assist my clients in exploring how their interpersonal relationships have impacted their emotional development, as well as how their previous relational experiences are affecting their current relationships.
In the course of treatment, I also use a family systems approach to assist families in developing more effective problem-solving strategies, exploring how each member of the family impacts and is impacted by other family members. I work with family members, both individually and as a group, reinforcing the constructive aspects of a relationship, and at the same time identifying the destructive elements. |
